Disney also Adds Young Han Solo and Boba Fett to the Mix

The debate over who shot first is about to start again, apparently. It seems Disney wants to take full advantage of all the iconic characters littering George Lucas’ Star Wars universe, and young Han Solo and Boba Fett are the latest in line for spinoff films.

Entertainment Weekly is reporting that both characters, which have become fan favorites over the years, will be getting standalone adventures as part of Disney’s push to crank out a steady stream of Star Wars movies. Throw in the fact that a rumored Yoda movie is also in development, and it looks like we’ll have more Star Wars than we know what to do with in the coming years.

The Han Solo film will “focus [on] the wisecracking smuggler’s origin story,” while the Boba Fett flick will put the masked bounty hunter “at the center of a rogue’s gallery of galactic scum.” Both projects are early in the development cycle, but it seems they’re pretty likely to move forward.

The stories would reportedly fit in the existing six-film timeline, with the Han Solo standalone falling between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope. The Boba Fett story would apparently take place either between A New Hope and Empire Strikes Back, or between Empire and Return of the Jedi.

Both films would almost certainly require younger actors to step into these iconic roles, because there’s no way that Harrison Ford could pull off playing a young Han Solo. He’s good, but not that good. Of course, there’s always a chance he could have a role to introduce the story (much how The Hobbit brought back some Lord of the Rings stars to kick off the story) in some way, which could be a nice passing of the torch.
