A Calvin & Hobbes original strip has sold for $203,150 at auction.
The 1986 hand-drawn comic by Bill Watterson was previously owned by Adam@Home and Red and Rover cartoonist Brian Basset, reports The Daily Cartoonist.
The pair had exchanged original pieces of artwork in 1986, and it has been in Basset’s collection ever since.
“Parting with the Watterson original was not an easy decision, but I believe it is the right decision,” said Basset in an earlier interview.
“I am so thankful of Bill Watterson’s generosity and the opportunity his talent has given me more than a quarter of a century later. It is now time for someone else to enjoy owning this piece of Americana.”
The strip was the first Calvin & Hobbes original to be offered at public auction.
