Jon Favreau Returns To Iron Man As Happy Hogan

Jon Favreau won’t be back in the director’s chair for Iron Man 3, but that doesn’t mean he won’t be backing ol’ Shellhead up on the big screen.

The third Iron Man movie (and the fifth Marvel movie to feature Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark) is getting some extra star power in the form of Favreau himself, returning in the fan-favorite role of Tony’s bodyguard and buddy, Happy Hogan. Heat Vision broke the news last night, which was later confirmed by Favreau’s own Twitter account.

Even though he didn’t return as director, Favreau’s continued involvement with Iron Man isn’t a shock. He’s been an outspoken supporter of incoming director Shane Black, and has been actively involved in the behind-the-scenes shaping of the Stark-studded flick.

“I’ve already been talking to [director Shane Black, Robert Downey Jr and Marvel] and I feel a tremendous connection to that franchise and that character,” Favreau said of his “Iron Man” involvement just a couple of weeks ago. “I’m very proud to see it moving forward in a way that reenforces that story.”

“It’s a really smart way to go,” he added about the story’s direction. “After ‘Avengers,’ you want to start with something really bold and inspired, and if you’ve ever seen ‘Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang,’ you’ve seen that when Downey and Shane get together, interesting and unexpected things happen.”
