Anthony Hopkins Wanted As Villain For Red 2

If you’re looking for an older actor known for playing diabolical characters, there isn’t much better than Sir Anthony Hopkins.

That’s probably what the makers of Red 2 were thinking when they approached Hopkins for the role as the villain of the upcoming sequel. According to the Deadline exclusive, Hopkins has expressed interest in the role, but there is one minor scheduling conflict, a little something called Thor 2.

The Marvel sequel is scheduled to go before the cameras sometime this fall with Hopkins already signed on to reprise his role as the All Father, Odin. It’s unclear at this point whether Hopkins’ commitment to Thor 2 would keep him from facing off against Bruce Willis, Helen Mirren and John Malkovich.

Red 2, the follow-up to the 2010 action comedy, recently added Catherine Zeta-Jones and Byung Hun-Li. If he were to join the movie, Hopkins would play a character named Edward Bailey, the film’s main villain.
