On Friday May 4, 2012 at 11am, in at the Hard Rock Cafe in Las Vegas, Nevada, legendary Marvel artist John Romita Jr. will attempt to break his own Guinness World Record for most continuous cartooning to support Candlelighters Childhood Cancer Foundation of Nevada – a non-profit that provides support and services for families of children diagnosed with cancer. Romita will try to continuously sketch characters and sign comics for 50 hours straight!
In 2002, in New York City, Romita set the previous world’s record for most continuous cartooning at 48 hours to raise money for his niece Jordan Alyssa Atherton, who at age 2, was diagnosed with a brain tumor, which then spread down her spinal column. Jordan is now 12 years-old, and free from cancer, but is still in need of special medical attention including specialized instruction and constant care.
By continuously drawing from Friday May 4 to Sunday, May 6, Romita is hoping to secure Jordan’s lifetime medical and personal needs and assist other children and their families who suffer from cancer and it’s residual effects.
So if you can make it out to the Hard Rock Cafe at 3771 S. Las Vegas Blvd. in Las Vegas, Nevada on May 4, it’s a $50 donation for a head/shoulder sketch and $25 for as many as 25 signatures on your favorite John Romita Jr. drawn books!
Get out there and support a great cause and a great artist.
