Warner Bros. has acquired the rights to Lucid, a four-issue comic book series written by Michael McMillan and published by Archaia. A mixture of fantasy and espionage set in a parallel world where magic is real and governments employ secret wizard-like agents to fight off various supernatural threats. No script writer has been assigned to the project yet.
According to Variety, Warners obtained the rights for producer Akiva Goldsman. This is Warners’ second recent acquisition of an Archaia property for Goldsman—the studio also acquired the rights to Bolivar, a dinosaur-themed comic that Goldsman is developing as an animated feature film.
Lucid, which debuted at the San Diego Comic-Con in 2009, was developed by Zachary Quinto’s Before the Door production company, which also produced the well-received indie film, Margin Call. McMillan, who came up with the concept and wrote the miniseries, is probably best known as an actor on the HBO series True Blood. Anna Wieszczyk provided the art for the series, which centers on a young wizard, who has just been named “Protector of the Realm” and has to use his powers as a combat mage to blunt the threat created by a dealer in occult technology.
