Actress Karen Gillan Hints toward Character’s Death

While we’re still slowly (but surely) recovering from the confirmed departure of both Amy and Rory from Doctor Who next season, Karen Gillan has revealed that *gulp* death could be the answer to the question we’ve all been asking: How will the Ponds leave the TARDIS?

Let’s check the facts.

We already know that the 11th Doctor’s (Matt Smith) companions Amy (Gillan) and Rory (Arthur Darville) are leaving our beloved Mad Man in the Big Blue Box during the course of the next season (the seventh one).

We also know, from Who showrunner Steven Moffat, that the married couple’s story will come to “a heartbreaking end,” but that he’ll meet a new friend (as you may already know, speculation on that front has already started). He also hinted at the return of River Song (Alex Kingston).

What we still don’t know, however, is how the couple will leave the series, and a heartbreaking end doesn’t bode well. At all.

And yes, Karen Gillan has already spoken up about wanting Amy to die permanently on Doctor Who (the character has ”died” already on the show—though not as often as her hubby Rory, who seems to have turned into a spacetime-traveling Kenny from South Park).

But this time, Gillan stresses that the possibility of Amy dying is very real. And it could happen at any time during the upcoming season.

During an appearance on the BBC’s The Graham Norton Show, the beautiful Scottish actress talked about her departure from the hit sci-fi series :

”I have known for ages that I am leaving and it’s such a massive relief that it is out and I can speak freely about it. I’m back next year for a few episodes but it’s not actually confirmed when I go.”

When asked if she knew just how the Time Lord’s trusted companion would leave the show and if Amy could actually die, Gillan said: ”I don’t know, it could be possible.”
