Cammy’s Favorite Covers for 9/21/11

Red Hood And The Outlaws #1 by Kenneth Rocafort

One of the things I always love about Rocafort’s covers is the different sharp shading he uses throughout the piece. It makes it more lively, and adds an extra ‘umph‘ to the overall image. I also really enjoy the onslaught of action in this cover, with Starfire’s violet blasts, Red Arrow’s arrows, and the multiple shots being taken by Red Hood. The only thing that stands out to me is Red Arrow’s dorky looking hat. Doesn’t exactly scream ‘badass’, does it?

B.P.R.D. Hell On Earth: Russia #1 by Dave Johnson

Dave Johnson and Russia, together again at last (see Superman: Red Son). I love the imagery of both tentacles and the Kremlin in the background, with the boys from B.P.R.D. special-ops division coming at you. In nature, red and black symbolize danger, so it makes me tingling with anticipation to read the story inside!

Wonder Woman #1 by Cliff Chiang

Now when you have a character like Wonder Woman, who spent her childhood in Themyscira training to be the best warrior woman ever known, you come to certain expectations of what her adventures might be like. This cover captures that essence wonderfully! Fearless, powerful, deadly. Sword versus arrows doesn’t normally seem like a fair fight, but with Wonder Woman the one holding the sword, you’re going to need more arrows. Beautiful cover, and I’d like to have it as a poster hanging in my room immediately.

Daredevil #4 by Marcos Martin

Such a brilliant idea having the gun barrels as buildings, as Daredevil swings in between. If you think about it, that’s what superheroes are constantly doing; dodging out of the way of gunfire. It’s only appropriate to have the visual of the entire city of baddies out to bust a cap in Daredevil’s ass. One might say I’m blown away by this cover.
