Hugh Jackman has been working on getting back into the adamantium-clawed mutant’s yellow spandex for a couple of years now, and almost a full year after now-departed director Darren Aronofsky was first announced for the project, “The Wolverine” remains stuck in the mud.
But the fast-healing Marvel Comics icon won’t stay still for long, not if Jackman has his way. In an interview with Leicester Square TV (via Comic Book Movie) at the “Real Steel” premiere in New York City, Jackman reaffirmed his investment in the character of Wolverine, insisting that a sequel is still very much in the works.
“I love [the character]. He’s eternally fascinating to me,” explained the actor. “He’s dark, tortured, and an interesting flawed character who somehow gets the weight of the world on his shoulders. I still don’t feel like we’ve really nailed him, and I really want to get it.”
He’ll have plenty of time to get it, too. According to Jackman, shooting on “The Wolverine” won’t start until next year when he’s finished filming “The King’s Speech” director Tom Hooper’s adaptation of “Les Miserables,” which he’s starring in opposite Russell Crowe.
“I think Les Mis is my next movie—in fact I know that—and then after that we’ll shoot it,” he said. “We start shooting next year.”
