The Walking Dead showrunner Frank Darabont has revealed new details about the upcoming second season.
Darabont confirmed in an official AMC interview that the majority of the new 13 episodes will take place on a country farm owned by Hershel (Scott Wilson).
“Last season was so challenging because it was different locations pretty much every episode,” he said. “Here, we’re… following the template of the comic book and that puts us at Hershel’s Farm for a good chunk of the season. Obviously we range out from there, but it’s a primary location for the season and that’s a terrific advantage.”
The Shawshank Redemption director also announced that he had helmed a brief sequence featuring T-Dog (IronE Singleton) for the second season premiere.
“The schedule for episode one was brutally tight given the ambitious nature of that episode, so we’ve had to do more second-unit on this one than usual,” explained Darabont. “I jumped in and directed a sequence involving T-Dog trying to elude a zombie in a big snarl of abandoned cars on a deserted highway.
“It’s a bit of cat-and-mouse in all the dead traffic, and it was terrific fun to shoot.”
Darabont added that the new season will continue to flesh out the storyline of the Walking Dead comic “in so many different directions”.
“Once you’re into this with real actors playing these characters, the dynamics develop over time from episode to episode,” he suggested. “In the story we’re telling, it’s just not that simple as it was in the comic book because you have those opportunities to really spin the story out in many different layers.”
It was recently confirmed that, in addition to Junebug actor Scott Wilson, Lauren Cohan and Pruitt Taylor Vince will join the cast of The Walking Dead next season.
The show recently won an award for ‘Best Television Presentation’ at the 37th Saturn Awards in Burbank, California.
The Walking Dead will return to AMC in the US and FX in the UK in late 2011.
