The Red Wing

The Red Wing

While doing my morning look around what has been said in the US and UK I came across this post by Bleeding Cool introducing us to The Red Wing and showing some fantastic art by Nick Pitarra which is being shown up at his blog.

So first up your asking what is it all about… Well here’s the synopsis:

Set in a future where the best fighter pilots in the world not only have to master their craft and perfect their skills, the heroes of The Red Wing also have to learn how to navigate through time. Described by Hickman as “the greatest battle in the history of the history of three worlds,” the four-issue miniseries is but the first concept to be mined by Hickman & Pitarra as part of Hickman’s ongoing “PLUS!” project.

It seems that the SciFi is starting to come back to comics and with a SciFi war book coming back is something that I’m glad to be seeing after coming across the Genre with Titanium Rain which came out last year and the up coming World War Kaiju coming as well.

The only thing that’s bothering me about the cover that has been shown and that you can see below is that the Helmet that you see on the cover keeps reminding me of Juan Jose RYP’s helmets from the Avatar Mini Series Black Summer. I’ll put a comparison down below to see if others can see it or is it just to early and I’m seeing things that are not there…

Anyway I’m glad this is on my radar now and I’m going to be looking to get this one to see what it’s like!

And remember to go over to Nick’s Blog to see more great artwork

And Ryp’s Black Summer helmet looks a lot like a spartan helmet (see the movie 300 for an easy example)……

I think the Red Wing helmet is more similar to a regular flight helmet with some shiny doo-dads added:
