The Avengers Gets An Open Casting Call This Week

Joss Whedon’s big-screen adaptation of The Avengers is going to be here before you know it. Pre-production for the 2012 summer film is in full swing right now, and Marvel Studios is giving fans a chance to actually be in the movie with an open casting call.

Here’s what you have to do: on February 16 — this Wednesday — make your way to the corner of Paseo de Peralta and Old Santa Fe Trail in Santa Fe, New Mexico by 10am. You’ll line up there and go through the casting call process for “Avengers” as well as a number of other projects (including hit TV series “Breaking Bad”).

It’s all part of New Mexico’s Film and Media Day (via SuperHeroHype).

In addition to the open casting call, attendees will be able to check out classes and demonstrations covering acting, “how to be a stand in,” stunt work, hair & makeup, wardrobe, special effects and editing. Best of all, everything is free and open to the public.

Last we heard, How I Met Your Mother star Cobie Smulders had been confirmed for the role of Maria Hill, agent (and eventual director) of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Nick Fury’s sidekick. The script is probably still getting some polish, but it’s complete enough for Thor star Chris Hemsworth to tell MTV that it is “incredible” and features “plenty of friction” between heroes.
