Batman Live Stage Show Announced

Even though the Spider-Man musical is experiencing further delays, it’s not the end for stage shows based on popular comic book characters. Case in point — Batman Live, an upcoming live show that’s set to tour across Europe next summer.

The show’s official global launch was announced this morning in a press release, with the show opening on July 20, 2011 in Manchester and hitting a variety of European cities before landing in North America in the summer of 2012. Tickets go on sale this Friday.

“Batman Live” is set to feature a wealth of characters from the Caped Crusader’s surrounding community including Alfred, Robin, and villains like The Joker, Riddler, Catwoman and The Penguin. The “brand new original storyline” takes place over various settings including Gotham City, Wayne Manor, the Bat Cave and Arkham Asylum.

“When a character has as wide an audience and as rich a history as Batman, it’s truly exciting to see him introduced into an all-new storytelling medium,” DC Entertainment co-publisher Jim Lee said of the show in a statement. “‘Batman Live’ will bring a completely new experience to fans of the character – it’s great to be able to give them something they haven’t seen before.”

“‘Batman Live’ will be a totally unique experience. This is not a musical but a high quality live show with a thrilling Batman story, filled with action, that will appeal to adults, teenagers and families,” added producer Nick Grace of Water Lane Productions. “Batman is more than a comic book character, he’s a cultural phenomenon and we are proud to have this opportunity to be involved with one of the most popular DC Super Heroes in the world today.”
