No Mary Jane in Spiderman Reboot

With Martin Sheen as Uncle Ben and Sally Field as Aunt May, it appears that the Spider-Man relaunch is truly swinging into action. But if you’re still holding out hope for a Mary Jane Watson casting announcement, we have some bad news for you…

Despite rumors to the contrary, it turns out that Mary Jane Watson will not have a role to play in director Marc Webb’s Spider-Man reboot, according to The Wrap. The report notes that Mary Jane doesn’t factor into the current script written by James Vanderbilt, and apparently, she was never involved in the first place.

Earlier reports suggested that Mary Jane would be one of two love interests featured in the “Spider-Man” relaunch. Gwen Stacy, Peter Parker’s ill-fated first girlfriend, would be the second lady competing for the web-slinger’s affections. But Emma Stone’s casting as Gwen is apparently the end of the story — no Mary Jane.

Some of the actresses that were once rumored for Mary Jane include Mia Wasikowska (Alice in Wonderland), Dianna Agron (Glee), Georgina Haig (Wasted on the Young) and Dominique McElligott (Moon).

Actress Kirsten Dunst played Mary Jane in all three previous Spider-Man films, opposite leading man Tobey Maguire and director Sam Raimi. Unlike those two, Dunst won’t have to worry about a replacement filling her shoes for the “Spider-Man” franchise’s immediate future.
