Mark Wahlberg has played an eclectic range of characters throughout his Hollywood career, from a thriving porn star in “Boogie Nights” all the way through to his most recent role as a bumbling police detective in “The Other Guys.” But his next role could bring Wahlberg to an entirely different playing field: the land of the dead.
Bloody Disgusting reports that Wahlberg has been offered the lead role in director Stephen Norrington’s reboot of The Crow. The film is currently undergoing script revisions courtesy of screenwriter and musician Nick Cave.
At the moment, Wahlberg’s casting in The Crow is far from official, as the report only states that he’s been offered the lead role in the comic book movie, not that he’s accepted the part. For now, it’s best to approach Wahlberg’s possible casting as a rumor only.
But it’s an interesting rumor, to say the least, and one that jives with what producer Edward Pressman told MTV News about the film’s leading man this past summer.
“[We’ve got an offer out] to a major actor and things are moving ahead very aggressively, with the aim of doing the film this year,” Pressman said at the time, leading us to launch a Secret Identity column in search of an adequate “Crow” star. Wahlberg was not on our list, but hey, he is a major actor, and we’ve been wrong before!
