Guillermo del Toro is enlisting the once and future Hellboy for his run at H.P. Lovecraft’s demythification of the Cthulhu stories—and he’s written a role specifically for Ron Perlman.
With James Cameron on board as a producer, del Toro is gearing up to start production on his adaptation of Lovecraft’s 1936 story “At The Mountains of Madness,” about a professor and his grad student who journey to Antarctica and find evidence of beings older than the first life on Earth—beings who might not be quite as dead as this professor first assumed.
And if there’s another del Toro flick, that means there’s another part for Perlman, who first collaborated with the Mexican director on 1993’s Cronos. When del Toro sat for an interview with MTV News, he revealed the following:
“All I can tell you is if Ron Perlman is free, he will be in. … I wrote a part for him. He read it, and if everything falls in place, Ron Perlman has a role in it written specifically for him. Ron plays Larson, the sort of dog guy, the guy that cares for the dogs and the sled. … It’s a fantastic character. I really love him. He’s sort of a pragmatic guy, doesn’t care about science or the mythology or the cosmology. He just is a hard-boiled Nordic man.”
