Voltron Concept Art Found

Voltron Concept Art Found

Earlier this summer, producers Ted Koplar and Richard Suckle spoke with MTV News to dispel the rumors that the developing Voltron feature film adaptation was dead in the water. But if you didn’t believe their comments, perhaps you’ll believe some visual evidence.

Two alleged pieces of concept art from the live-action Voltron: Defender of the Universe adaptation have premiered online at JoBlo. If official, the two images showcase the size, scale, scope and setting from the forthcoming Voltron film, depicting a practically apocalyptic New York City torn to shreds at the hands of some truly menacing creatures.

We’ve posted the images after the jump, but head over to JoBlo.com for high-res versions of each shot.

The first of the two images features the heroic Voltron standing behind the Statue of Liberty, fully formed and poised for battle. Well, perhaps not fully formed, as one of Voltron’s many lion components has apparently broken off to scale Lady Liberty herself.

The second image showcases an even more intense scene, as another of Voltron’s lions squares off against a creature that the site identifies as a “Robeast,” one of the franchise’s classic antagonists. The battle isn’t going well for our heroes, however, as you can spot a fallen lion in the bottom right corner of the image.

In addition to the concept art, the site claims that Conan screenwriters Thomas Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer have been hired to take a crack at the Voltron script. The writing duo is also hard at work on a Dr. Strange adaptation for Marvel.
