Breaking Bad Director To Helm Episode of The Walking Dead

With “The Walking Dead” set to make its debut on AMC in just a few short months, we may now know at least one of the directors who will follow Frank Darabont on the series.

According to Jo Blo, Michelle MacLaren will direct an episode of “The Walking Dead” during the first season. MacLaren has previously directed episodes of “Breaking Bad,” “John Doe,” “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.” “Without a Trace” and “The X-Files,” where she also served as a co-executive producer.

Additionally, during a recent interview with Dread Central, Darabont revealed that “The Walking Dead” was in development at NBC at one point.

“They were very excited about the idea of doing a zombie show until I handed them a zombie script where zombies were actually doing zombie s***,” said Darabont. “It’s one of those things where the network says, ‘Oh yeah, we want to stretch the envelope’ until they realize that they’re actually looking at a stretched envelope, and they go, ‘Woah, no, let’s do CSI some more.’”

“I’m certainly not trying to rip them down,” added Darabont. “But they’re a network, and we could never have done this show the way it needed to be done there.”

In the same piece, “Walking Dead” creator Robert Kirkman reiterated the point about how much gore AMC is willing to show.

“The stuff that AMC is going to put on air is crazy,” related Kirkman. “They keep showing me things, and I’m like, you’re not doing that.”

Kirkman also described the brutal aftermath of a scene in which the main character (Rick) narrowly escapes a horde of zombies. However, his horse was not as fortunate.

“They rip a horse open, and there’s just spaghetti coming out,” continued Kirkman. “They actually have things that you see.”

“The Walking Dead” will star Andrew Lincoln as Rick Grimes and Sarah Wayne Callies as his wife, Lori. The rest of the cast includes Jon Bernthal, Jeffrey DeMunn, Laurie Holden, Steven Yeun, Michael Rooker and Chandler Riggs.

The series premiere will air on AMC in October.
