Green Lantern: Emerald Knights Animated Movie coming?

Green Lantern: Emerald Knights Animated Movie coming?

While doubts were raised earlier this year regarding a potential follow-up to Green Lantern: First Flight, it appears that Green Lantern is going to star in another animated film.

According to World’s Finest Online, Warner Brothers Home Video has revealed that “Green Lantern: Emerald Knights” is on their upcoming slate of animated projects. The new animated film was hinted at earlier this month during the Cartoon Network upfronts that also announced the upcoming “Green Lantern” animated series.

The report also confirms that Batman: Year One is one of the next DC animated films, along with Superman/Batman: Apocalypse which was officially announced earlier this week.

In 1998, a storyline called “Emerald Knights” did run in the pages of “Green Lantern” and featured Hal Jordan coming from the past into the present to team up with the modern age Green Lantern, Kyle Rayner. However, a direct adaptation of that story seems unlikely, given the relatively low profile of Kyle Rayner outside of comics.

“Green Lantern: Emerald Knights” is expected to coincide with the summer 2011 release of director Martin Campbell’s live action “Green Lantern” adaptation starring Ryan Reynolds, Mark Strong, Peter Sarsgaard, Blake Lively, Tim Robbins, Angela Bassett, Jon Tenney, Gattlin Griffith and Jenna Craig.
