Nic Cage Uncertain About Ghost Rider 2 Involvement

Nicolas Cage’s 2007 hit “Ghost Rider” may have made $115 million, but two years later it seems to be existing in that same state of Hollywood limbo as barely-blockbusters like “The Sum of All Fears,” “Hairspray,” or “The Italian Job” — sequel rumors pop up, but there’s some doubt whether one would cement a bigger “Bourne”-like box-office increase, or a “Tomb Raider”-esque over-anticipation of demand. And despite reports of movement on David Goyer’s “Ghost Rider” sequel script, Cage says he’s the wrong person to ask these days for updates.

“You probably know more about it then I do,” laughed the veteran actor when asked about the project. “What have you read?”

Cage said he hadn’t heard anything about Goyer’s sequel — which is set 10 years after the first film — and is afraid to comment on his future with the character these days.

“Yeah, well I don’t really know how to answer that,” Cage said when I asked if he was still attached. “Because I don’t have all the details.”

The veteran star is currently receiving his best reviews in years, re-teamed with Eva Mendes in “Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans,” but said that he and Mendes didn’t spend much time on the New Orleans set waxing nostalgic about their days surrounded by motorcycles, black leather and jellybeans.

“Yeah, that’s right,” he said of the reunion with his “Ghost Rider” leading lady. “I don’t know [if we’ll reunite again]. I don’t know where Eva’s at on that.”

“I have to be careful about how I answer these questions about ‘Ghost Rider’,” he explained. “Because if I say anything, it seems to set the Internet ablaze.”

Maybe Cage meant to drop that clever pun on us; maybe he didn’t. But the star remains a huge fan of Johnny Blaze. And at least we care enough to still be talking about the franchise two years later, right?

“Yeah,” Cage agreed. “Yeah, but I really don’t want to talk about it right now.”
