Marvel Studios’ highly anticipated “Thor” adaptation is finally set to go before the cameras in January.
Principal photography will begin in Los Angeles before moving to Santa Fe, New Mexico, in March according to a report from Production Weekly.
“Thor” has rapidly gained a higher profile among movie fans thanks to a stellar cast including Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Tom Hiddleston as his evil half-brother, Loki, Anthony Hopkins as Odin and Natalie Portman as Jane Foster. Jaimie Alexander, Colm Feore and Stellan Skarsgard have also been cast in presently unspecified roles.
The story reportedly finds Thor cast down from Asgard –the land of Nordic Gods– and forced to rediscover what it means to be a hero by living among humanity and protecting the Earth against the darkest hordes of Asgard’s greatest enemies.
Popular Marvel Comics writer Brian Michael Bendis has been effusive in his praise for director Kenneth Branagh’s take on “Thor.”
“’Thor’ is an extravaganza. The artwork is unbelievable… They flew us all here because Kenneth Branagh wanted to tell us his ‘Thor’ movie and he pitched it live. It was Shakespearean…”
Bendis also recently offered his thoughts on how “Thor” and “Iron Man” can successfully come together in the forthcoming “Avengers” movie.
“Thor” is scheduled to hit theaters on May 20, 2011.
