Later on this month, former Stargate Atlantis star Jason Momoa will begin filming his part as the title character in director Marcus Nispel’s new Conan film, which is based on the popular barbarian warrior created by Robert E. Howard.
And while Arnold Schwarzenegger’s turn as Conan in “Conan the Barbarian” and “Conan the Destroyer” has defined the character in popular culture since 1982, Momoa’s Conan will skew more towards the rogue adventurer found in Howard’s original novels.
“At the time, ['Conan the Barbarian'] was amazing… It’s got a little ’80s vibe to it,” said Momoa during an interview with the Des Moines Register. “I did more research with the books (than the movies), to tell you the truth.”
The article also stated that Momoa is training for his role in “Conan” with stunt performer David Leitch (“The Bourne Ultimatum”) and Chad Stahelski, the martial arts stunt coordinator for “The Matrix Reloaded” and “The Matrix Revolutions.”
Momoa also offered his insight on his life as an actor.
“I simply get to study life. I can be a doctor, I can be a crack addict, I can be Conan the Barbarian – or I can be saving the frickin’ galaxy. It doesn’t ever get dull.”
Late last month, reports indicated that Sean Hood had been hired to rewrite the “Conan” screenplay and that film veteran Mickey Rourke is in talks to portray Conan’s father.
“Conan” is scheduled to film in Bulgaria through June with a release date planned for 2011.
The Burntwire Brothers remodeled a room to house their collection of D&D paraphernalia as well as a place to hold game sessions. There are stained glass windows, faux dungeon walls, a metal portcullis, dragon statuettes and a rack of swords. As if the place needs more atmosphere, the Dungeon Master can control the room’s lighting, a fog machine and a strobe from his or her seat at the table. [via boingboing]

From Super Hero Hype:
More hypothetical news from the web about a Blade 4 that may or may not ever happen.
With Wesley Snipes on the Brooklyn’s Finest press tour, everyone’s asking if he’d be up for another go in the skin of the Daywalker known as Blade. Is he interested? Of course he is! It’s work after all.
He tells MTV (via ShockTillYouDrop.com): “There are some things we really want to do that we didn’t get a chance to do. The first and the second one were experiments, and we started to get better. If we do another one, it will reflect our maturity and our better understanding of the genre.”
Sam Raimi’s potential feature film adaptation of The Shadow — a classic pulp hero from the ’30s — is looking for a new home.
According to Variety, Sony has allowed the film rights for “The Shadow” to lapse, leaving the project in turnaround. Raimi is still attached to the project and is currently preparing to pitch the film to other studios — although 20th Century Fox was the only studio named as a potential destination.
Back in 2006, Raimi partnered with “Dark Knight” producer Michael Uslan to place “The Shadow” at Sony. Raimi had previously attempted to get the rights for “The Shadow” in the ’80s before creating his own pulp-inspired superhero, “Darkman.”
“The Shadow” originated as a popular radio drama that eventually spawned several film serials, TV series, comic books and video games featuring a dark vigilante with psychic powers. “The Shadow” was most recently adapted in the 1994 movie of the same name starring Alec Baldwin in the title role.
Last year, Uslan told MTV News that Raimi’s version of “The Shadow” would greatly differ from the ‘94 film, including the possibility that Lamont Cranston — The Shadow’s alter ego — may not be the only person to wear the costume.
“I think the one thing going in is we all see The Shadow as more of a force of nature than a specific person in a secret identity,” explained Uslan. “The Shadow may actually be many people.”
Uslan also cautioned that it might take a considerable amount of time to bring “The Shadow” back to the big screen.
“You know, it takes time to nurture these things,” said Uslan. “You probably know all the stories. The first ‘Batman’ film took me 10 years to get made.”

Warner Brothers’ highly anticipated “Green Lantern” movie — starring Ryan Reynolds as Hal Jordan — is set to begin filming later this month. However, a news story out of New Orleans indicates that the film’s production may be starting sooner than anticipated.
Nola.com is reporting that test footage for “Green Lantern” will be filmed tomorrow morning at a section of Lake Road in Madisonville, Louisiana. The report also states that the film crew will be shooting test runs with a stunt car, according to Bill Doyle — the supervising location manager for “Green Lantern.”
It’s worth noting that there is a car accident in Hal Jordan’s backstory. During the first issue of “Green Lantern: Emerald Dawn”, Jordan was behind the wheel of a car wreck that seriously injured his best friend and jeopardized his job as a test pilot before he was given the Green Lantern power ring. The stunt car could potentially be used in preparation of that scene.
Back in January, “Green Lantern” director Martin Campbell stated that the film would strike a balance between the scenes set on Earth and the scenes set in Space.
“There are a couple of bits [on Earth] in between [the space scenes],” said Campbell. “I think there will be enough [of a balance between space and Earth] to satisfy everybody.”
Blake Lively, Mark Strong, Peter Sarsgaard and Tim Robbins are all signed to appear in the “Green Lantern” film. It is scheduled to be released on June 17, 2011.

Feature-length premiere on Friday, March 5 at 7.30pm.
Season 1 continues with single episodes from Friday, March 12 at 7.30pm
his is the one you’ve been waiting for. A mix of adventure, mystery and good old fashioned fun, Warehouse 13 isn’t what you think it is. Sure, it IS a giant secret facility somewhere in South Dakota housing bizarre objects found throughout the ages, but it is so much more than that. Join Eddie McClintock and Joanne Kelly as two Secret Service agents who must work with the slightly mad Saul Rubinek to ’snag, bag and tag’ every strange artefact, mysterious relic, fantastical object and supernatural souvenir ever collected by the U.S. government.
