Daredevil Season 2 Officially Renewed

The breakout success of Marvel’s Netflix series Daredevil left many a fan uncertain when we’d see ol’ Hornhead again, given the AKA Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist series leading into The Defenders. Now, we can count ourselves the fans without fear, as Netflix has officially confirmed Daredevil Season 2 for 2016, albeit with a bit of creative change.

Netflix announced the renewal only minutes ago, adding that Buffy the Vampire Slayer vet Doug Petrie and Sons of Anarchy alum Marco Ramirez will take over showrunning duties from Steven DeKnight, both men having worked with he and Drew Goddard throughout Season 1. Additionally, Ramirez, Petrie, Goddard and Jeph Loeb will all serve as executive producers. DeKnight released the following statement regarding his departure as showrunner:

While previous commitments unfortunately prevent me from continuing on with Daredevil into its second season, I could not be happier that Doug Petrie and Marco Ramirez are carrying the torch. They were invaluable collaborators during our first season, and I for one can’t wait to see what they do with the show moving forward.

We presume most of the major cast will return, including Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock, and Vincent D’Onofrio as Wilson Fisk, though it’s of interest that Marvel upped the ante to its original Netflix order of 60 episodes between the five series. We’d recently heard DeKnight discussing Season 2 possibilities and the Iron Fist connections inherent to Daredevil’s first season, which makes the showrunner change a bit curious
