Keanu Reeves Responds to Doctor Strange Chatter

While promoting his revenge thriller John Wick, Keanu Reeves learned of the rising fan desire to see him don a goatee and cloak to become Marvel’s big-screen Doctor Strange. Collider brought the topic up to the actor and asked him if he would ever consider taking such a role.

“From a practical standpoint the idea of a longtime contract is sort of ‘errr’ because you want to make sure the material is up to a certain level,” Reeves said. “Like the good or great level. I like the idea. I go to those kinds of movies. I like super hero movies. I grew up on them and comics and graphic novels. [But] I don’t know Doctor Strange as a character, I didn’t read that as a kid.”

The interviewer assured Reeves he would be perfect for the role of Stephen Strange, Marvel’s Sorcerer Supreme. After hearing the pitch, Reeves elaborated on his earlier point. “You need the material, which is a script, and you need a director that you feel can deliver a vision. You don’t want to just do it for doing it. You want to make sure it’s trying to do something.”

It’s worth noting that Reeves previously worked with Doctor Strange director Scott Derrickson on 2008′s The Day the Earth Stood Still. The two have a history, but there’s no word as to whether history might repeat itself.
