Chew Animated Feature Announced

An FDA agent solves crimes by receiving psychic impressions from ingesting flesh, including from humans. Sounds like a bad horror movie, right? Instead, it’s a fantastic, unique and innovative comic series full of as much humor as it is with weird, creepy cannibalism.

CHEW is written by John Layman and illustrated by Rob Guillory, and has gone for over 40 issues so far, and the trade paperbacks have landed on the New York Times Bestseller charts and won two Eisner Awards.

Now, the popular series is getting the animated treatment for a feature mini-series to be released digitally and on DVD. And even cooler than the feature itself is who’s starring in it doing the voice acting: Steven Yeun and Felicia Day!

Steven Yeun, who plays Glenn on AMC’s The Walking Dead, is no stranger to voice acting, having worked on The Legend of Korra as Wan. It’s an interesting choice considering he’s on a show about flesh-eating zombies and now he’s voicing the FDA agent, Tony Chu, who eats flesh.

Felicia Day, who has appeared on various shows like Eureka, Supernatural and her own web show, The Guild, will voice Amelia Mintz, the other lead character in the series.

Layman wrote the script for the CHEW anmiated feature mini-series, which will be directed by Jeff Krelitz (Peter Panzerfaust, Torchwood: Web of Lies). Voiceover work has already begun. No word on a release date yet.
