TEEN TITANS writer Scott Lobdell announced that the book was getting cancelled, and CBR later confirmed that with DC Comics. So issue #30, which releases in April, will be the final issue of the series for now.
“Why am I talking about it like its in the past? Because issue #30 and the annual a week later is going to the final issue of the most recent incarnation of the TEEN TITANS!” Lobdell told Comicvine yesterday. “I’m thrilled the DC is letting me wrap up the story on a high note as the TEEN TITANS square off against the N.O.W.H.E.R.E. in a final battle — bringing to conclusion the conflict that began in the first issue!”
This ups the count of cancellations already being talked about. We’ll certainly learn more when DC’s April solicits (which they seem to be holding back) are released.
TEEN TITANS has been an up and down series, with some high points and many low points. It’s not surprising to see the title go, but still sad to once again have a DC without a title bearing that iconic name. I’m sure it will return, though, in due time.
That said, I do find it kind of funny that issue #30 is the ending point when looking back at the events of past issue #30s in TEEN TITANS (and related titles) history.
TEEN TITANS Vol. 1 #30 is a story called “Some Call it Noise” in which the Titans prevent a robbery while procuring a charity donation.
NEW TEEN TITANS Vol. 1 #30 featured Terra joining the team for the first time.
NEW TEEN TITANS Vol. 2 #30 is a story called “Revolition” as part of “Sins of the Past” which sees Brother Blood having beaten down the Titans and Frances Kane having to send in a strike force of heroes to rescue the fallen Titans.
YOUNG JUSTICE Vol. 1 #30 is a story called “Round Robin” as it’s the Battle for the Boy Wonder, and Secret vs. Spoiler.
TITANS Vol. 1 #30 featured the Trial of Cheshire.
TEEN TITANS Vol. 3 #30 Brother Blood returns and attacks Raven in Titans Tower.
TITANS Vol. 2 #30 was part of Brightest Day.
And now, in TEEN TITANS Vol. 4 #30 we get a cancellation. Go figure.
