News broke yesterday that 28-year old Israeli actress, Gal Gadot has been cast to play Diana Prince and her alter ego, Wonder Woman in the upcoming Man of Steel sequel, which also stars Batman, played by Ben Affleck.
Gadot is most known for her role in Fast & Furious and this year’s Fast & Furious 6. She also appeared in Date Night and Knight & Day.
There has been some controversy over this casting choice, given her physique (very thin – she was a 2004 Miss Universe contestant) and other factors I won’t even mention here. I say give her a chance. July 2015 is a ways off, she could get some physical training in between now and then and appear to be the warrior Amazon we all are familiar with.
This will be the character of Wonder Woman’s biggest on screen appearance yet. The character is the third part of the “DC Trinity” along with the other starring roles of the film, Superman and Batman.
What concerns me more than the casting choice is the potential to over-stack the film with both Batman and Wonder Woman appearing, rumors of the Flash, and a villain.
The Superman/Batman movie begins principal photography in the first quarter of 2014 and returns Henry Cavill as Clark Kent/Superman, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Laurence Fishburne as Perry White and Diane Lane as Martha Kent. The film is set to hit theaters on July 17, 2015.
