Kick-Ass had its Big Daddy in Nicolas Cage, and the sequel is looking to add an equal amount of “star” power with its Colonel Stars — played by none other than Jim Carrey.
An unusual casting choice on the surface, but fans of the comics worried about Carrey’s suitability don’t need to look much further than new photos from the Toronto set of Kick-Ass 2 to see that “The Mask” comedian is the spitting image of the Colonel Stars seen in Mark Millar and John Romita Jr.’s comic book series.
Carrey’s on-set appearance features the actor with a graying, military-style haircut, and possibly even prosthetics on his nose and/or forehead to age him up a bit.
In the comics, Colonel Stars has a brother, Lieutenant Stripes. It doesn’t look like Stripes will factor into the Kick-Ass movie sequel, however, as Millar explained on Twitter: “We don’t have the brother in the movie. Jim Carrey seemed enough.”
Starring Aaron Johnson, Chloe Moretz and Christopher Mintz-Plasse, “Kick-Ass 2” storms into theaters on June 28, 2013.
