Watchmen Screenwriter To Script The Crow Remake

It’s been a few months since our last update on The Crow, Relativity Media’s upcoming remake of the 1994 film starring Brandon Lee. As of our last report, Limitless actor Bradley Cooper was in talks to star in the film with director Juan Carlos Fresnadillo (28 Weeks Later) behind the camera, but the film was still in search of a screenwriter.

That search ended this week with the studio’s announcement that Watchmen screenwriter Alex Tse will script the remake, and Cooper will indeed play the role of gothic hero Eric Draven, who’s resurrected from the dead to avenge his wife’s brutal murder.

Relativity Media’s President of Worldwide Production, Tucker Tooley, and The Crow franchise producer Edward R. Pressman made the news official, stating in a press release that “Fresnadillo and Tse are perfectly suited to bring these beloved characters back to life, and to create a world worthy of this modern classic.”

The celebrated 1994 film was an adaptation of a comic book by James O’Barr, and was the last role for Lee, who was fatally injured in an accident that occurred while filming “the Crow.” There have been numerous sequels and a short-lived television series, but they’ve all failed to replicate the success of the original.

Filming on the remake was expected to begin this Fall, with Fresnadillo co-writing the script now that Tse has signed on.
