Disney Acquires Stake In Stan Lee’s Entertainment

As if The Walt Disney Company’s approved acquisition of Marvel Entertainment wasn’t a satisfying enough victory for the House of Mouse, Disney has also bolstered its partnership with one of Marvel’s single most iconic creators — none other than Stan Lee.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Disney has acquired a 10-percent stake of Lee’s Pow Entertainment for $2.5 million. As part of the deal, Disney is acquiring “exclusive consulting services” from Pow as well as the “enhanced rights” to the company’s creative side.

At this time, specific details on the nature of Pow and Disney’s new deal aren’t entirely known — but rest assured, Lee himself is a very happy camper.

Over the weekend, the Pow Entertainment founder spoke about the deal on Twitter, suggesting that Disney must have realized the influence that Lee’s 35,000 followers must have.

“[Maybe], when we hit 100,000, Disney’ll host our party,” the acclaimed comic book writer declared. “But one thing at a time. I’m still trying for a discount on my ticket to Disneyland!”

Lee — whose company already had ties with Disney before the recently enhanced partnership — had previously said that he “couldn’t be happier” with Disney’s then-pending acquisition of Marvel.

“It’s [a] great move for Disney, for Marvel and for my company Pow! Entertainment since Pow! has a first-look deal with Disney,” he said. “From every point of view, the merger of Disney and Marvel is a match made in heaven.”

Given those previous comments and his recent remarks on Twitter, one thing is for sure — the renewed partnership between Disney and Pow is one heck of a belated birthday present for Stan the Man.
